Ricmedia Guitar Latest News

September 27, 2009 By Richie

DAYLESFORD-VICTORIA-27th September 2009 – Welcome to the Ricmedia Guitar! latest news. It has been a while since I last published a news item, this has been due to two (yes 2) bouts of the flu, and yes, one was likely of the swine variety, but I am over it now after a few grueling weeks šŸ™ It is due to this experience that I will now only publish news items on a “non-scheduled” basis as this will fit in with my health.

I did however manage to publish two lessons over the last few weeks, the first being a general guide on musical dots & ties which has some great TAB and audio samples along with it, and the second, published today, is a lesson on simple time signatures which is part one of a three part lesson series, and includes audio samples and a list of songs on YouTube in different key signatures, lots of fun so check it out.

Next week I hope to publish two more lessons so be sure to subscribe to our newsletter or RSS feed to ensure you are kept up-to-date on the latest lessons I publish.

Well this brings another latest news to an end, so until next time, take care and most of all, have fun!.

Cheers & Enjoy!

Ricmedia Guitar News Roundup

September 6, 2009 By Richie

DAYLESFORD-VICTORIA-6th September 2009 – Welcome to the second edition of the Ricmedia Guitar Roundup. This week we kept very busy fixing some small issues with the website, and we are glad to report all is now well. We will be implementing SSL encryption on the contact page and the newsletter signup as soon as possible, this will give our users more security and assurance.

Also this week saw the launch of our comprehensive Ricmedia Guitar Buying Guide that includes a large guitar model reference, explanation of the important physical characteristics of guitars, a section devoted entirely to woods used in guitar manufacture, and a list of questions to ask your local music shop owner before you invest in a new guitar. See excerpt below….

Ricmedia Guitar Buying Guide

Welcome to the Ricmedia Guitar Buying Guide which is intended to give the widest possible overview of both guitar type, and the musical styles in which they are used. I have included as many types of guitars as possible, but there are a number of other models that I could not fit in like the GibsonĀ® Thunderbird, FenderĀ® Jaguar and the GibsonĀ® Flying-V, but the guitars included will give you an excellent general knowledge and help you decide which guitar you might like to purchase.

There are as many guitar types and models as there are models of Car, but below you will find the most common types which also happen to be some of the oldest “tried and tested” designs and are copied or licensed to most other guitar companies World wide. An important note on my choice and suggestions for guitars, when I suggest say a FenderĀ® StratocasterĀ®, I am saying that this exact model and brand is probably the most used for this particular job, but that does not mean a copied/licensed StratocasterĀ® will do an any worse or better job……more

Next week will see three more additions to the website so be sure to sign-up to our newsletter alert service or subscribe to our RSS feed to ensure your the first to see them.

Well this brings our second Weekly News Roundup to a close, so until next week, take care and most of all, have fun!.

Cheers & Enjoy!

Ricmedia Guitar News Roundup

August 30, 2009 By Richie

DAYLESFORD-VICTORIA-30th August 2009 – Welcome to the first News Roundup for Ricmedia Guitar! What an exciting week it has been, last Saturday night saw the launch of our guitar micro-site after twelve months of design and testing and over three years of preparation, and everything went off without a hitch. We were delighted to have Harmony Central feature our press release and we give many thanks for their support. There were some other high profile website’s syndicating the press release like EntertainWire.org and a review at Mr Blues Guy so thanks go’s out to them also. We would also like to thank you, our users who have given so much good feedback about the site and your experiences with it.

We kept ourselves very busy during the week writing and publishing three new lessons, two beginner and one intermediate and below is some excerpts from them.

How to practice your guitar

How To Practice Your Guitar

The first element we need to learn is time management, which is simply allowing enough time on a set of given tasks, but is often overlooked. The best way to manage time during your practice schedule is to purchase a timer, these retail for around $15.00 to $40.00 and will be one of the most important investments you make. I personally use a timer from a company called West Bend (see figure 1.a left) sold at Amazon.com for $17.99, but I am sure there are many other brands available, there is also an online timer too……more

Barre chords part 1

Barre Chords Part 1

Often overlooked is the correct technique you should use when playing barre chords, so lets first go through and learn the right technique to use before we try and play any shapes. The first aspect we need to learn is arm position, so take a look at the first two images on the left (figures 1.a and 1.b). In figure 1.a you will see the wrong arm position, which is too close to the side of the body. The problem with this position is that no leverage is created, and we need as much leverage as we can get to be able to play barre chords. Now take a look at figure 1.b, you will see that the arm is away from the body, this will create leverage on you hand and fingers and therefore, on the frets where your finger tips are madly pressing down on :)……..more

Augmented Chords

Augmented Chords

Augmented chords are most often used as a passing chord between two other chords, no more than a whole step/tone apart, and usually for brief periods of time. For example: AMA7 to BMA7, we can place a Bā™+ in between those two chords which has the effect of smoothing out the transition, and adding color and depth to the musical piece.

The same can be done to the chords Dmi7 to EMA7, we can place a D♯+ between them, again smoothing out the transition and adding something different to the chord progression……..more

Well this brings our very first Weekly News Roundup to a close, so until next week, take care and most of all have fun!.

Cheers & Enjoy!

Ricmedia Guitar Website Kicks Off

August 22, 2009 By Richie

DAYLESFORD – VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA – August 22, 2009 – After twelve months of design and testing and three years of preparation, the Ricmedia Guitar Website (https://guitar.ricmedia.com/) was launched late Saturday night amid celebration of designer and owner Richie Brereton’s family and friends.

Ricmedia Guitar is a website devoted to all things ā€œGuitarā€ and provides free lessons for any aspiring student wanting to learn scales, chords, music theory and many more specialized subject areas. Ricmedia Guitar also boasts an online guitar tuner and metronome, video lessons, plus hundreds of audio samples along with a JavaScript framework that enables cutting edge multimedia delivery in every lesson.

Preparation for the site began three years ago when owner and designer Richie Brereton sold his previous online retail business to pursue his dream of building a free online guitar lesson website. Richard studied hard to learn how to build an effective site using the multimedia he wanted, which took up the first two years, but for the last twelve months he has been working solely on the guitar website.

At the age of eighteen, Richard traveled to Los Angeles to study guitar at the Musicians Institute in California, and graduated in march of 1992. He then returned home to pursue a teaching career which kept him busy for the next decade. After a hiatus running an online guitar string retailer business, Richard says he is glad to be back teaching guitar and in a new and exciting way.

Richard says that new lessons will be published at a rate of three or more per week. Users can subscribe to the RSS channel as well as the newsletter service, that will keep them up-to-date about any newly published lessons, tools or guides.

The website address is: https://guitar.ricmedia.com/
